The creation of “The Orphan” is inspired by the context of war.

It represents a child whose parent was killed fighting for freedom.

The esthetic effects of the use of lighting emphasize the eye and the expression of the face.

The emotions evoked by the use of black, white and grey is sadness and the atmosphere is dark.

The sadness is encompassed in the eye where you can barely see a small light reflection.

Also the mouth express the same emotion.

This drawing portrays the void, emptiness and grief in the eye of a child.

What makes it more impactful is, in my opinion, that the figure is a child. The child symbolizes vulnerability, innocence and helplessness.
